Difference Between System Unit and CPU

System Unit VS CPU

We all know about the computer and about the CPU as well. A normal computer is present in almost each and every house. There are 4 basic parts of a computer like the CPU, monitor, keyboard, and the mouse. There is a normal and a common misconception about the CPU. The CPU basically stands for the Central Processing Unit. This thing is also known as the brain of the computer. Now the misconception is calling a system unit as a CPU. The thing we call a CPU is basically a system unit which is composed of different things including the CPU inside it.

Difference Between System Unit and CPU

System Unit

All the devices used to connect a computer like the storage devices, input devices, output devices, communication devices, connection devices, as well as the processing devices are the part of a system unit. We can define a system unit in simple language as well. A system unit is a casing in which there are several electronic components and circuits. These all things are connected to each other in order to perform the successful operations is called a system unit. There are different types of the system units. Microphone, monitor, printer, scanner, Web cam, and speakers can also be called as the system units as well.

CPU

The term CPU refers to the Central Processing Unit. This is a small component of the system unit. This is also known as the processor or the microprocessor. All the instruction are carried to the processor and the job of the processor is to process them and to fulfill them. These instructions are carried to the processor in the forms of the signals. Then the processor reads them and passes the signals to the desired component. When this process completes the result is shown on the screen of the computer. There are different types of microprocessors as well. Like the single core processors and the multi-core processors.

Difference Between System Unit and CPU

  • The system unit is a box having a series of components. While the CPU is a single component.
  • The system unit consists of CPU and a number of components which are connecting each other.
  • A System unit is dependent on the components. While the CPU is independent is a sense.
  • The job of a system unit is to protect its components and to hold them at a fixed point. While the job of a CPU is to take the instructions from the user and to process them in order to get the desirable result.
